Father's Day 2022

Father's Day is observed on different dates by people in various countries and cultures, while it is celebrated widely on June 3rd due to westernization. Countries like US, Canada, India, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Ukraine, Mali etc. celebrate on 3rd Sunday in June; Italy, Portugal, Spain on 19th March; Egypt, Syria, Lebanon on 21st June; Australia and New Zealand in September. Many countries have declared this day as a national holiday, so that families get together and celebrate their father and father figures in life.

In the year 1972, President Richard Nixon has declared Father's Day as a national holiday in the US. But Sonara Smart Dodd was the one who founded Father's Day. Her father, William Jackson Smart, a civil war veteran, raised 6 children including Sonara, as a single dad, after his wife's death. One day, while Sonara was in church she came to know about the significance of Mother's Day and decided to dedicate a day in honour of her father and millions of others in the world. She approached Spokane Ministerial Alliance with the proposal and on 9th June, 1910 Father's Day was celebrated for the first time. Since then, through word of mouth the news spread and many in the country started to observe Father's Day.  

Due to societal prejudice, generally father is considered to be authoritative, commanding respect and decision maker of the family; while mother is empathetic, nurturing children and managing household chores. With time, the outlook towards fatherhood has changed considerably and today both mother and father have equal share in raising kids and running the family.

Father is often the unsung hero of every family, who needs to be equally appreciated and honoured for putting family and children first. If mother is the heart of the family, father is the soul! Let us celebrate and appreciate our father and mother, not only today, but every day!!!

Book: Sidney Sheldon's The Silent Widow by Tilly Bagshawe

If you are from 80s, like me, it is most likely you would have started your reading journey with a Sidney Sheldon's novel. Hands down, he is a master story teller known for his thrilling plots, inspiring characters, suspense and unexpected twists. Looking at the name of the book  Sidney Sheldon’s The Silent Widow , don't mistake it for written by Sidney Sheldon. Tilly Bagshawe is the author of this book.  Tilly Bagshawe is originally known as Matilda Emily Mary Bagshawe. She is a fictional writer who has written many international best-selling novels like Adored, Flawless, Temptation, The Show, The Bachelor etc.. An Impromptu Nature Walk: Healing Hearts and Growing Minds

It's summer break and like many parents, I find myself navigating the ups and downs of having my child at home - full time. Recently, one morning stood out in particular - a moment that turned into an unexpected adventure. My son woke up feeling sad.
